Ranked second on VH1’s list of the ‘100 Greatest Women
in Music’ in 2012,
music diva Mariah Carey is all set to make her next album with the biggest
producers for 2013. This time, her buddies Jermaine Dupri and Brian-Michael Cox
will share music space with her, helping in producing the album. Carey, who was
working with them the whole night and the following morning on the album, says,
“We have our own
chemistry”.
American Idol & Disney single
Her last single, ‘Almost Home’ for the Disney film Oz the Great and Powerful, is all set to hit the screens on March 8. The song is a theme for the Wizard of Oz prequel and in her words, “gives you the feeling of reaching home and being with people you love.” ‘Almost Home’ made its debut at No. 18 on the R&B song chart and at No.9 on the R&B Digital songs chart. It is considered rare for an American Idol sitting judge to make such a debut. While former judge of the reality show Paula Abdul did it twice in 2008 and 2009, Jennifer Lopez had four singles in 2011-12 and Lopez’ fellow judge Steven Tyler had one solo single to his credit. Carey is the latest to join this elite club.
Ballads galore
Interestingly, she has enlisted big music producers like Hit-Boy, The-Dream, Big Jim Wright and Rodney Jerkins for the dream project. Tentatively scheduled for a May release, she promises to dish out more of ballads than hip-hop for her fans this time. The yet-to-be named -album is expected to include “raw ballads,” fast-paced numbers and songs in her signature style. This is Carey’s fourteenth music album. The songstress, who was presented with the Millennium Award at the 2000 World Music Awards for the best-selling female artist of the millennium, has a lot of expectations from her next venture.
Flying solo
The best-selling female music artist has more than 200 albums sold to date and nearly 18 (17, of her own) Billboard #1 singles, smashing other solo records, to her credit. The singer/songwriter/producer made a debut in the music industry with her self-titled album in 1990, defining modern pop shows. Subsequently, she made a series of hit singles from her albums Emotions (1991) and MTV Unplugged (1992), making her top the pop charts. These days, the Grammy-winning musician is busy juggling her schedule between her next album, judging popular reality show American Idol and looking after her twins
